Chapter 23

MENZI

Mafungwase has been discharged from the hospital and I'm accompanying her parents to fetch her .this thing of her losing her memory is breaking my heart because what do you mean that she doesn't remember any memories we made together?

I haven't been eating lately and i can feel that I'm getting depressed but I have no choice but to be strong for my chubby cheeks and try to make her remember. If she doesn't than I will have to make new memories with her.

Her brother has been healing also and he was discharged two days ago .Samkelo really made a mess and I don't think I will ever forgive him for what he did. He almost killed her and I'm certain that I was going to end my life if she didn't wake up.

We enter her ward and we find her packing her clothes . Her parents hug her and i just stand there ,not knowing what to do or how to react. After hugging her parents ,she then looks at me and we lock eyes for a moment.

"Hi lush "

"Hi chubby cheeks "

She smiles and god ,I really missed that smile of hers .

"So I'm going with you guys?"

"Yes ,we are your parents mafungwase "

Her dad says snd she nods then takes her bag .

"So what is our surname and where do we leave?"

She asks curiously and her parents answer her while signing the discharging forms .The doctor comes in and converse with her parents then we walk out .we climb into the car ,me and her sit at the backseats and the engine starts then we drive off.

I don't know whether to touch her or not .my eyes are on her throughout the journey and she's looking through the window while the side of her face is placed on it.

"I miss you"

I whisper and she turns her face to me .

"Were you saying something?"

I lowly smile and shake my head. She looks at me for a moment then places her hand on top of mine .

"I'm still sorry that I can't remember anything lush"

"It's okay ,vele it's not your fault "

We lowly smile at each other and her father looks at us through the mirror. I miss her ,I really do and I hope she gains her memory back because without her i don't think I will be anything.

FLASHBACK

She is at the girls toilet with her friend, infact best friend. They have been friends since the first grade, even though they somehow betrayed each other they solved their problems.

As she is peeing ,her bestie enters the toilet room she is in and she gets startled.

"What are you doing here Nandi?"

She asks her as she quickly pulls up her panty that was below her knees but Nandi stops her .

"Nandi what are you doing ?"

"Remember what sihle taught us?,I want us to try it "

She pops her eyes out .what sihle taught them at the second grade was weird and it was a bit uncomfortable. She didn't like the experience and she didn't feel anything. Why would Nandi want to try something that is so weird ,especially since they are both girls?.

They can't do it ,they are just in fourth grade to do these dirty things .

"I don't want to do it mina ,I'm uncomfortable "

"Kahle ,it's nice "

Nandi was taller than her and had power as she was a prefect. Her heart is beating fast and her eyes are wandering around .

"No ,Nandi we are kids. We can't do this plus what if i fall pregnant "

She was told that if she does dirty things with anyone ,she will fall pregnant. Nandi laughs at her and gets closer to her while she is moving backwards.

" we are both girls ,you won't fall pregnant relax"

She shakes her head ,she is still not comfortable.

"Look ,I will ask mam to give you 90% on maths .I know that you are failing maths"

"Then I will have to make sure you repeat the grade ,your choice "

"You can't do this to me ,you are my best friend "

"We will both enjoy it ,come on!"

She looks away ,she might as well agree .she can't afford to fail the grade

"Fine but don't tell anyone about this"
Her mouth is agreeing but her heart is aching ,she really don't want to do this but she has no choice. The person that she thought was her bestie is about to break her . Nandi proceeds to touch her lady part and the rest was nothing but continuing circle that was a trauma.

I've been trying to control myself and not bawl out my tears but I can't, I can't control myself. The pain of realizing that I can't even talk to my best friend and vent out to her because she can't remember me is breaking me .

I really don't know what to do and I heard that she has been discharged, I don't know if I'm ready to go to check up on her .this shit is painful man. I decide to check my phone messages and the first notification is lindokuhle's email . Aibo lomfana?

I read it and guess what.......he is asking me to come out . Apparently he is outside waiting for me and I don't know why. I fix myself then walk out of the gate .I see the car five houses away from my home and I walk up to it when I get closer he us leaning against it . He smiles and I fold my arms .

"What are you doing here?"

"Hawu not even a hi lindo , how are you ?"

"Kuhle mfethu ,I left my brother in the house he will come out at any moment ufunani?!"

I raise my voice a bit and he clenches his jaw .

"You will not raise your voice at me lala ,I just wanted to see you .I know that you are not okay because of the mafungwase situation "

He holds my hands then brush the back of them and I sigh .

"Well thank you ,I guess but that doesn't mean we will have anything between us njengoba usungibiza ngo Lala nje"

He chuckles

"I didn't say anything mina ,don't you want us to go and take a walk at the beach "

"Please..."

I can hear and see the begging in him . I really don't want to catch feelings for this dude man. I look around then lock eyes with him .

"Fine ,let me tell my brother that you and Menzi came to fetch me to go and check up on mafungwase"

He nods and I run to my house .I find my brother washing his tekkies.

"I'm going to check up on mafungwase "

"Isn't she discharged from the hospital?"

"She is ,I'm going to her house "

"Ohh ,who are you going with?."

"Her boyfriend and his friend "

"Ohhh ,don't do things that you wouldn't do infront of me."

I nod then went back to where the car is .I climb in then fasten my belt and I feel his eyes on me ,eyyy yabona lento ayenzayo lomfana!

"You are beautiful "

I lowly smile at him .he needs to stop doing this ,him trying to soften me up .I was serious when I said I don't want any relationship and I want to finish high school without dating . He starts the engine and we head to the ntoti beach .

When we arrive ,he opens the car door for me and I climb out .our feet land on the sand and he intertwines our hands ,I suddenly feel butterflies flying in my stomach. I look at him as we watch the ocean.

The breeze is hitting our skins and I find myself leaning on his shoulder as we are seated on the sand . The peace I'm feeling is undeniable ,it's amazing and for the first time I heard about the mafungwase situation, I'm able to be at peace or to stay quiet and think without breaking .

"I'm at peace "

He says as we lock eyes .

"Why ?"

I lowly ask him and he chuckles.

"Because I'm with you Lala "

I stay quiet for a moment, looking into his eyes that are brown like coffee .it's like I'm searching for something in them and I don't what is that . He suddenly kisses my forehead then my nose .

"Who gave you the permission to do that?"

"Your eyes Lala ,they say something that is deeper than what you utter to me "

"What is that?"

"Something that you are denying for me"

I scoff then look back at the ocean and I can feel his eyes on me . Maybe I do feel something deeper for him but I don't want to risk it all.
