TEARS OF A ROYAL BLOOD

15

The following day

MKHONTO

He has just declared himself the next king, and no one has the right to disagree with him. It’s what his father wanted, and everyone knows that he is the heir. Everyone was still sad and heart broken over the news of the man of the house. But they must get used to it.

He pushed the cars over to the bridge, even if they do survive from the car crash, they sure will drown, and no one will even look for them.

He was in the throne room trying on the lion print that his father used to wear over his shoulders. Too bad he(Qhawe) died with the royal sceptre, but it doesn’t matter, he can always have a new one made for him.

“Now this is the real shit” he points out as he is sitting on the throne. It feels good and it is boosting his ego.

Madida:This is just the beginning. You are about to taste just how amazing life is. You will never survive this life if you don’t have anything, or if you are still bowing down to another man. You have the chance to get all the power and reign over this kingdom. Everyone will squirm under your presence. And that’s what makes a great king.

Mkhonto internally smiled. If this is how power feels, then he wants it all, even the crumbs.

Lisa enters the room just as he was about to respond to Madida. She didn’t look like the usual Lisa that he knows. She seemed sad.

Lisa frowned seeing him sitting on his father’s chair.

Lisa:Why are you sitting in your father’s chair??

Mkhonto:My father is gone and I am king now.

Lisa:How sure are you that he is dead? Maybe they survived. You should send a rescue team to look for them. They cant just disappear. Maybe the river washed them off on another piece of land.

Mkhonto:Why are you pushing this because I told y’all that I didn’t find them!!?? You don’t believe me when I say I looked for them??

He roared at her and that caused her to jump frightened. She was seeing a new side to Mkhonto and she doesn’t like it. She knows her husband to be soft and sweet, not this person she’s seeing.

Lisa: I didn’t mean to accuse you of something my love. I’m sorry.

Mkhonto:You are about to be a wife to a king. You need to learn to behave yourself as one. Your loyalty is with me, and you should always side with me. Do you hear me?

She nodded repeatedly.

Mkhonto:Now come here.

She slowly moved towards him. He pointed at his lap for her to sit on it, she did so. He kissed her cheek.

Mkhonto:Things are looking up for us my love. Don’t worry yourself about a lot of things. Just know that I will never hurt you. I’m yours and you are mine.

SOLWAZI

He was still thinking about what Mkhonto said. His father can’t be dead, they were just speaking yesterday and now he’s dead? He refuses to believe this. He needs to ask Mkhonto more about this, maybe they can send a rescue team to look for them at that river.

He walks to the throne room where he is sure that he will find him at. Indeed, he finds him sitting in his father’s chair. It takes a lot in him to not punch him off that chair. It hasn’t even been a week since his father is apparently dead and already he is crowning himself king.

Solwazi:MK I need to know more about this accident.

Mkhonto:What else do you want to know? I already told everyone what happened.

Solwazi:I know, but I don’t want to believe that our father is dead. And you didn’t see their bodies, so you are not sure that they are dead.

Mkhonto:I was there when the whole thing happened, dad’s driver must have lost control over the wheels and he drove over the bridge and the car fell into the river. I quickly saw what was happening and jumped out, but it was already too late for my driver. We were too close with the other car. I know its hard to accept and believe this, but he’s gone, Solwazi. Our father is gone. We can send the rescue team but they won’t find them.

Solwazi;I’d rather try than to just accept that he’s gone. On the other hand, you don’t seem too sad or hurt over this.

Mkhonto:Must be the effects of me being possessed. But we made it to the healer’s house and she got rid of the darkness inside me. I’m now Madida’s spirit free.

Solwazi:I thought you were supposed to bath in the river for seven days.

Mkhonto:That lady didn’t mention a thing like that.

Solwazi:I see.

He doesn’t believe him. He can see that he’s lying through his teeth. He’s more worried about his father for now. He knows they weren’t exactly the father and son goals everyone would look up to, but this was his father.

He walked out of the room and started to make calls to appropriate people for the rescue team.

KHOLO

Her and Khethi have set up the mattresses and lit up candles in honor of their husband. She is shattered to say the least, she loved Qhawe and nothing prepared her for this. She didn’t expect this. Her tears have been falling on their own for hours. Khethi was also a crying mess next to her.

She will surely miss him, and she just wished she had more time with him. The only thing that gives her solace for now, is that her son survived. She wouldn’t have been able to handle losing both her husband and son. Mkhonto is still young and he has a wife and children.

Khethi:Has anyone called Mamkhulu and told her about this?

She sniffs and wipes her nose with the tissue.

Kholo:I don’t know, I think solwazi called her and told her.

Khethi:I can’t believe this is happening. He is gone? Just like that? I haven’t even been married for a year and I’m already a widow.

Kholo sighed and pat her shoulders. At least she is still young, she can still move on with her life and find a new person. Her and Makhumalo are old, there is no moving past this.

Khethi:Don’t we have relatives here?

Kholo; You are asking too many questions Khethi, and im not in the right space to answer. Please let me just cry for my husband.

By the river, solwazi was with the rescue team and they have seacrched the entire place. With no luck. He was starting to come into realisation. The people who went into the river came back with nothing. Only the empty cars were retrieved.

“Your Highness, we have searched everywhere but we couldn’t find him. Im sorry”one of the rescuers said.

He nodded and folded his lips together. This was really happening. His father is dead. The guy hugs him seeing he was close into crying.

“Be strong my prince, do not lose hope. We don’t know where the river will wash him up into. Have hope that we will find him”

Solwazi:It has been a day, even if the water spits him out somewhere , I don’t think he would still be alive.

He hated saying that, but he was losing hope with every second that passes by.

He carried his sadness all the way to his car.

At the royal house, at the gate, a short middle aged man stood before the guards. He was wearing beads on his feet and hands. With a clothing wrapped around his waist.

“My name is Phazama.I am here to see the king”he tells the guards.

Guard:Wait here.

He went inside and came back minutes later and told Phazama that he could come inside.

Phazama walked in with the guard and he took him inside where evryone was. He greeted.

Mkhonto:Family, this is Bab’Phazama, our new seer. I am saddened over the death of Ndlovu, but a royal house can't be without a seer.

They nodded.

Phazama:Condolenses to the family for the loss of your king. I promise to fulfil my duties and look after the family as Ndlovu did. The royal house is safe with me in here.

Him and Mkhonto locked eyes and they nodded at each other.

Mkhonto:Let me show you your hut.
