WRITTEN IN THE STARS: SEASON 2 10
SBANISENKOSI
I wake the following day feeling like my water hasn't broke. Am I really in labour 9r it's just another false alarm? Now I'm a bit confused and only the doctor can clear my confusion.
“Here's your breakfast..” He says walking in with a tray in his hands, I place my phone down and he places the tray besides me before sitting infront of me.
“Still no pains?” He asks, i shake my head.
“Nothing, I think we should go to the hospital. I'm confused..” I say, he nods and grabs the tray.
“Let me feed you, my mom said you should have some porridge in the meantime. I mixed it with some fresh strawberries and blueberries.” He says.
“I didn't know you know how to make porridge.” I say, he chuckles. What can he not cook kodwa?
“It's the best..” He says, I smile.
“Now I'm being for real, teach me how to cook as good as you can. I want to cook for you too.” I say.
“I'll teach you but I don't really mind cooking for you, it's not an issue for me. I love cooking for you.” He says.
“Hmm? I'll surprise you one day with a home cooked meal.” I say, he laughs a bit and scoops the porridge on the spoon.
“Here..” He says, I open my mouth and he feeds me. It doesn't have a lot of sugar but the fruits are giving it a really nice taste.
“Are you not anxious that you might be in labour? You're so chilled Sbani and that's freaking me out.” He says, I chuckle.
“She's not going to stay in my belly forever Nkanyezi, she has to come out at some point and I'm trying not to freak out.” I say.
“Yo..” He says, I swallow and he feeds me again. Once I'm full, he hands me the glass of sparkling water and I drink a bit.
“Let me go and wash the dishes, will you be able to shower or you're going to wait for me?” He asks.
“I'll be able to shower, just a quick one then we can go.” I say, he nods and kisses my forehead. He walks out and I get off the bed, my lower belly feels extra heavy today. I walk to the shower ant take off my pajamas. I step into the shower and turn the tap on. . . I'm done showering and lotioning myself, I just put on my leggings and his sweater. I also put on my sleepers and walk out of the bedroom. I walk downstairs and find him mopping.
“Can I help?” I ask him, he shakes his head.
“I spilled water on the floor, I'm just wiping it. We'll leave now, there's a smoothie for you on the counter.” He says, God..you just had to give me a man that takes care of me in all ways. What are you doing to me? I feel so guilty that he's doing all of this and I'm just helpless walking around with a big belly infront of me.
I walk to the counter and grab the smoothie, he finishes up and places everything in its place. Once he's done, he grabs his car keys and we walk out. We walk to the car and he opens the door for me. I jump in and he closes, once he gets to his side. He jumps in and drives out.
He continues driving till we reach the hospital, he had already called Dr Mthembu and notified her about our visit. We jump off the car and we walk inside.
“Please hold this for me..” I say handing him the smoothie as we continue walking. We reach her office and he knocks before she lets us in. We walk inside..
“Good morning..” Christopher says to her, she smiles.
“Good morning mommy and daddy, how are you guys?” She asks, i shake my head.
“I don't know how I am...” I say, she nods and smiles.
“Understood, please come and lay down here for me so I can examine you and see whether or not we're ready to have her out or not.” She says, I proceed to lay on the bed and expose my belly.
“You sure do look ready..” She says, I know it's big enough. I can feel it's weight.. she does the same process with the cold clear gel on my belly. We glare at the screen, she's facing downwards.
“Your water definitely broke but she's still not positioned well. Your contractions haven't even began, you still have a long way to go and because you're a first time mother. Your contractions will take very long to get your cervix dilated. You have to wait and I'm sorry to say but, it's going to be tough.” She says, I sigh. Why is she trying to give me a heart attack?
Just then we hear the strong heartbeat and my heart beats a little fast. She's a very strong girl with a strong heartbeat.
“Still healthy and good. Nothing to worry about, contractions may begin later on today or tonight so when they start. Do not eat heavy meals, eat light meals but also ensure that you're going to have energy to push when it is time. Take relaxing baths and try not to panick. It's just giving birth, everything's fine.” She says, is she being serious right now? what does she mean it's just giving birth? uhm...doctor with many qualifications, it's giving birth with my freaking vagina!
“Everything's okay..” She says printing out the images, I sit up and wipe the clear gel off. I pull the sweater down and jump off the bed.
“Will you get an epidural if I advised you to?” She asks.
“No she won't, that will put the baby's life on risk so she'll pass.” Christopher replies before I even reply, yazin? it's fine.
“That's okay, we're done for now. If the contractions start, then don't hesitate to call me and if they continue intensifying. Call me also..” She says, we nod.
“Thank you, bye..” Nkanyezi says grabbing my hand and we walk out of the room.
“Okay you need to stop, you're literally sweating. Did you see yourself?” I ask him, he glares at me.
“You're stressing me out..” He says.
“How? I'm not in any pain Nkanyezi, you heard the doctor.. I still have a very long way to go so please calm down or else you're gonna make me panic as well.” I say, he sighs and we stop walking.
“Okay..I'll try not to panic, let me calm down.” He says kissing my forehead, I glare at him. Wait..
“Are you crying?” I ask him, I can he a fool as well. Of course he's crying..there are tears in his eyes. I wipe them off..
“It's okay, seriously..” I say, he nods and kisses my forehead multiple times. Shem, he's so worried.
