I glance through my rearview mirror as she steps through the gate. I wait a few seconds just to be sure she's safely inside before pulling off and heading back to work.
An unfamiliar calm washes over me... something I can't quite place. My chest feels lighter, as if a weight I didn't even realise I was carrying has been lifted.
