The Lost Princess

Captured

As the warriors closed in on us, their swords flashing in the firelight, I prepared for the worst. But just as all hope seemed lost, a group of knights burst into the clearing, their armor gleaming in the firelight. They charged into battle, their swords clashing with the warriors'.

The fight was intense, but the knights were well-trained and well-armed. They quickly gained the upper hand, and the warriors were defeated. Max and I stood frozen, watching as the knights dispatched the last of our attackers.

But as the knights turned to us, their faces obscured by their helmets, I felt a growing sense of unease. They seemed to regard us as nothing more than prisoners, their manner brusque and commanding.

"Take them," one of the knights growled, nodding to his companions.

Max and I were seized, our arms bound behind our backs. I struggled against my captors, but they were too strong.

"Who are you?" I demanded, trying to keep my voice steady. "What do you want with us?"

The knight who seemed to be in charge turned to me, his face hidden behind his helmet. "You'll find out soon enough," he said, his voice cold and menacing.

As we were dragged away, I tried to get my bearings. We were taken through the forest, the trees blurring together as we moved. I had no idea where we were going, or what lay ahead.

Eventually, we arrived at a castle. I had never seen it before, and I had no idea who it belonged to. The knights took us inside, throwing us into a luxurious bedchamber. The door was locked behind us, and we were left alone.

Max turned to me, his eyes blazing with determination. "We'll get out of here," he said, his voice low and urgent. "We just need to wait for the right moment."

I nodded, trying to feel a sense of hope.

As we stood in the luxurious bedchamber, trying to make sense of our situation, the door burst open and a tall, imposing figure strode in. He was dressed in fine robes, and a crown sat atop his head.

"Ah, welcome," he said, his voice booming through the room. "I am the king of this land. And you, my dear, are a guest in my castle."

I curtsied, trying to hide my fear. "Thank you, Your Majesty," I said.

The king's eyes narrowed as he looked at Max. "And who is this?" he asked, his voice cold.

Max stood tall, his eyes flashing with defiance. "I am her protector," he said.

The king's face twisted into a sneer. "I think we can take care of her protection from now on," he said. "Guards, take him away."

The guards moved forward, seizing Max and dragging him away. I tried to follow, but the king's guards blocked my path.

"Let me go!" I shouted, struggling against them.

The king's voice cut through the commotion. "Take her to her room," he said. "And make sure she is...comfortable."

I was dragged away, kicking and screaming. I was thrown into a luxurious bedchamber, the door locked behind me.

As I paced back and forth, trying to think of a way to escape, I heard a faint scream echoing through the castle walls. My heart sank as I realized it was Max.

Oh no, I thought, my mind racing with horror. What are they doing to him?

As the hours passed, the screams grew louder and more frequent. I knew that Max was being tortured, and I was powerless to stop it.

Eventually, the screams stopped. Max was gone, and it was all my fault. If only I had been stronger, if only I had been able to protect him...

I collapsed to the floor, overcome with grief and guilt. I had never felt so alone, so helpless. And as I wept, I knew that I would never forgive myself for what had happened to Max.

I slept fitfully, my dreams haunted by visions of Max's screams and the king's cold, calculating eyes. But when I woke, I felt a sense of determination wash over me. I would not rest until I had taken down the king and avenged Max's death.

As I sat up in bed, the door to my chamber opened and a servant entered. "It's time for your bath, guest," she said, her voice neutral.

I nodded, knowing that I had to play along if I was going to survive. The servant led me to a bathing chamber, where a warm bath was waiting for me. I washed quickly, my mind racing with thoughts of revenge.

When I emerged from the bath, the servant was waiting with a set of new clothes. I dressed quickly, my eyes scanning the room for any sign of a weapon.

But there was nothing. I was completely at the mercy of the king and his guards.

The servant led me to the great hall, where breakfast was waiting. I walked slowly, my eyes scanning the room for any sign of the king.

But as I entered the great hall, my eyes fell on a sight that made my blood run cold. Max's body was displayed outside, guarded by the king's knights. My heart felt like it had been ripped from my chest.

I felt a surge of anger and hatred towards the king and his men. I knew that I had to keep my cool, but it was hard to pretend that everything was okay when Max's lifeless body was displayed like a trophy.

I took a deep breath and walked into the great hall, my eyes fixed on the king's table. I would play along, for now. But I would not rest until I had taken my revenge.

I sat down at the table, trying to compose myself as I faced the king and his courtiers. The breakfast spread before me was lavish, but I had no appetite. I pushed the food around my plate, trying to appear nonchalant while my mind seethed with anger and grief.

Just as I was starting to think that I would have to endure this torture for the rest of the day, a servant approached me. "The king has instructed me to show you around the castle and its grounds," she said, her voice expressionless.

I nodded, trying to hide my excitement. This was my chance to escape, to get back to the village and warn them about the king's treachery. But as I stood up and followed the servant out of the great hall, I couldn't shake off the feeling of uncertainty. Would the villagers accept me back after what had happened to Max? Or would they blame me for his death?

As we walked through the castle gardens, I kept a close eye on the servant, waiting for the perfect moment to make my move. The castle walls loomed above us, but I could see the forest beyond, beckoning me to freedom. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come. It was time to take my chance and make a run for it.
