THE INCARCERATED STRANGER
THE INCARCERATED STRANGER
Chapter 43
“What?” Nodwe asks, confusion etched on her face. Ayakha curses under her breath, regretting her words. It’s too late now; everyone heard her, and there’s no turning back.
“What does she mean by that, Mother?” Nodwe presses, her eyes darting between Donga and Hleliwe. Hleliwe lets out a heavy sigh.
“I’m sorry,” Ayakha murmurs, looking down in shame. Mangaliso reaches for her hand under the table and gives it a reassuring squeeze.
“It’s okay, my child. I think the truth has to come out now,” Donga says, turning his gaze to his sons..
“What truth, Father?” Amahle asks, curiosity mixed with concern.
“Senzo and Mzwandile know what truth I’m talking about. Let us give them a chance to talk,” Donga continues. Senzo and Mzwandile exchange wide-eyed glances, the weight of the moment sinking in.
“Are you going to talk or not?” Zanele snaps, impatience creeping into her tone.
“Your brothers were the ones poisoning your father,” Hleliwe finally reveals, her voice steady but filled with emotion. The other siblings gasp in shock.
“I knew it!” Amahle exclaims.
“I always suspected these two, but I couldn’t say it,” she adds, frustration bubbling to the surface.
“Dad, we’re sorry,” Senzo says quickly, his voice laced with regret.
“Sorry? You almost killed my husband for selfish reasons, the two of you!” Hleliwe responds sharply, her anger palpable.
The room falls into a tense silence, the weight of Hleliwe's words hanging heavily in the air. Each sibling processes the shocking revelation in their own way.
“Mom, it’s not what you think!” Mzwandile protests, his voice rising defensively. “We didn’t mean for it to go that far.”
“Not what I think?” Hleliwe retorts, her eyes narrowing. “You thought it was okay to betray your own father for money? How could you even consider that?”
Senzo shifts uncomfortably in his seat, trying to find the right words. “We were just trying to help—”
“Help?” Amahle cuts him off, incredulity lacing her voice.
“Help by poisoning him? That’s your idea of help?”
“Look,” Donga finally speaks up, his voice calm but firm.
“You both need to understand the gravity of what you’ve done.I almost died and left my wife and my childrenand my grandchildren!.”
Mzwandile opens his mouth to argue but closes it again, realizing there’s no defending their actions now.
“What were you thinking?” Nodwe asks quietly, her eyes filled with tears. “How could you do this to Dad?”
The brothers look at each other, the reality of their choices settling in like a heavy cloud.
“I... I don’t know,” Senzo admits, his voice barely above a whisper. “We got caught up in things we shouldn’t have.”
“Caught up?” Hleliwe echoes incredulously.
“You had a choice! And you chose to poison your own father for his wealth!”
Ayakha feels her heart race as she watches Mangaliso's family unravel before her eyes. It was meant to be a joyful reunion, but now it feels like everything is falling apart, because of her big mouth.
“I think we need to talk about this more seriously,” Mangaliso finally says, breaking the silence that followed Hleliwe's outburst. “This isn’t just a family issue anymore; it’s something that needs to be addressed legally.”
Everyone looks at him, shocked by the implication.
“Do you really think we should involve the police?” Amahle asks hesitantly.
“It’s not just about involving them,” Mangaliso replies firmly. “It’s about protecting our family and making sure this doesn’t happen again.”
Donga nods slowly, understanding the gravity of their situation.
“What? You can’t get us arrested! We’re your children, Father!” Mzwandile protests, his voice rising in panic. Hleliwe lets out a laugh, her expression a mix of disbelief and anger.
“Daddy, please call the officers inside,” Hleliwe says with a smirk, her tone mocking. Senzo’s eyes widen in shock.
Donga calmly types something on his phone. Within three minutes, the door swings open, and four officers enter, accompanied by a detective.
“Good evening, family,” the detective greets, his tone professional but somewhat detached.
“Senzo Mazibuko and Mzwandile Mazibuko, you are both under arrest for poisoning your father and attempting to kill him.” The officers move swiftly, pulling the brothers to their feet and cuffing them.
“You can continue having your dinner, lovely family,” the detective says with an air of indifference as he turns to leave. He follows the officers who are holding Senzo and Mzwandile, both of whom are screaming and begging their parents for forgiveness.
“Please! We didn’t mean it!” Senzo cries out desperately as they are led away.
“This is not how it was supposed to be!” Mzwandile adds, panic evident in his voice.
The remaining family members stare in stunned silence, the reality of the situation sinking in as the door closes behind the officers. The atmosphere at the table shifts dramatically from tense confrontation to utter disbelief…
_
My life is going wonderfully! After two years of being in a relationship with Mangaliso, we are happier than ever. Of course, we’ve faced our share of challenges, but we’ve overcome them together and stayed strong, always there for each other.
I haven’t introduced Mangaliso to my family yet, but I’m planning to do so soon since I’m organizing a trip to the Eastern Cape with him. I’m not sure if he’ll agree to it, but I really hope he will. I already know his family well—I’m close with his siblings as if I were the Makoti.
As I think about the trip, a mix of excitement and nerves bubbles up inside me. Introducing Mangaliso to my family feels like a big step, but I believe it’s the right time. We’ve built such a solid foundation together, and I want them to see how wonderful he is.
I can already imagine the conversations we’ll have around the dinner table—his laughter blending with mine, sharing stories, and creating memories. I want my family to see him the way I see him: supportive, kind, and incredibly loving.
But what if they don’t accept him? The thought makes my stomach twist. My family can be a bit traditional, and I worry about their expectations. Still, I remind myself that love transcends those boundaries. Mangaliso has been there for me through thick and thin; surely that counts for something.
I prepare for our trip, I decide to talk to him about it tonight. Maybe over dinner, where the atmosphere is warm and relaxed. I can already picture us in our favorite little spot, the scent of delicious food filling the air as we share our dreams for the future.I hope he sees it as an opportunity rather than a pressure. After all, we’ve been through so much together; this could be just another adventure in our journey.
With determination in my heart, I start planning how to present the idea to him. This trip could be the perfect chance for both of us to grow closer as a couple while also bridging the gap between our families. Whatever happens, I know that as long as we have each other, we can face anything that comes our way.
As the evening approaches, I feel a flutter of anticipation mixed with a hint of anxiety. I want everything to go perfectly. I set the table with our favorite dishes, the familiar scents making the space feel cozy and inviting.
When Mangaliso arrives, he greets me with that warm smile that always makes my heart skip a beat. We share a quick kiss before we settle down to eat. The conversation flows easily, filled with laughter and playful teasing as we enjoy our meal together.
After we finish eating, I take a deep breath, feeling the moment is right.
“So, babe,” I begin, trying to keep my tone casual, “I’ve been thinking about something.”
He looks up from his plate, curiosity lighting up his eyes.
“What’s on your mind?”
I can’t help but smile at how attentive he is.
“I was wondering how you’d feel about taking a trip to the Eastern Cape with me. I want you to meet my family.”
His expression shifts slightly, and I can see him processing my words. “Your family? Wow, that’s a big step,” he replies, his voice thoughtful.
“I know it is,” I say quickly, wanting to reassure him.
“But I really want them to meet you. We’ve been together for two years now, and it feels like the right time.”
Mangaliso leans back in his chair, contemplating my proposal. “What do you think your family will think of me?” he asks, a hint of uncertainty creeping into his voice.
I reach across the table and take his hand in mine.
“They’ll love you! You’re amazing, and they’ll see how incredible you are just like I do. Plus, I'm really close with your family already; it would mean so much to me to connect our worlds.”
He smiles softly at my words, clearly touched by my enthusiasm. “Okay,” he finally says after a moment of pause
“I’m in! Let’s do it.”
A wave of relief washes over me as I squeeze his hand tighter. “Really? You mean it?”
“Absolutely,” he replies with a grin.
“I’m excited to meet your family and see where you grew up.”
We spend the rest of the evening discussing plans for the trip—where we’ll stay, what we’ll do, and how we’ll introduce ourselves to my family. The thought of sharing this part of my life with him fills me with joy.
As we clean up after dinner, I can’t help but feel grateful for the love we share and the journey ahead of us. This trip could be just what we need to strengthen our bond even further and show our families that love knows no boundaries.
With Mangaliso by my side, I feel ready to take on anything life throws our way—together.
